Yokika Hornsby, Texas Southern University- c/o 2014, Administration of Justice

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*
Born & raised in Waco, Texas which is the home of Paul Quinn College.
My grandmother & grandfather were professors at Paul Quinn & my mother is a graduate of Paul Quinn & masters graduate from Prairie View.
HBCU's are my life!

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*
Waco is home of the Baylor Bears. My grandparents made sure that I knew for a fact that there's always a great place for higher education at a HBCU.
Walking Paul Quinn campus all of my life I always felt like this is where I belong. I never got that feeling from Baylor, even though my Aunt worked there.
What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*
As a mother of a high school student deciding to go back to college to get her degree was scary. Being on Texas Southern campus as a nontraditional student ended up being one of the greatest experiences in my life thus far!

Having a blast, even at my age, participating in events at my Alma Mata
"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*
My 1st time experiences @ Texas Southern are so many I can't even name them all. I met a Tuskegee Airman/worked closely with State & Federal Representatives/went to my state capital for a purpose not as a tourist/partied with BBD & Doug E. Fresh/attended & volunteered at the NAACP National Convention/be a part of the recreation of the March on Washington/and so much more.
Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*
Dr. Thomas Freeman, Professor LaRence Snowden, Dr. Michael Adams, and Dr. Nayer.
Each of these professors truly care about their Tigers and they never sugar coat anything because you're a minority.
While Dr. Freeman was teaching vocal presentation Snowden. Nayer, and Adams were teaching me how things really are in this new career field I was embarking on for the 1st time.
What are the chants heard most often at the sporting events?
TS - TS- TS - TS U U U I THOUGHT YOU KNEW
What to date has been your happiest moment @ Your HBCU?
My daughter in the stands cheering for me as I walked across the stage for graduation.
How are you positively active on campus? (e.g. clubs, SGA, etc.)

Where is the “yard” located?
The "Tiger Walk"
What to date has been your saddest moment at your HBCU?
When my resident died from a gunshot & when another one died driving home.
Which professors have impacted your life the most at your HBCU?
This one isn't a professor but she has taught the majority of TxSU's life lessons, decorum, proper procedures & much more.
Her name is Mrs. Mellany Patrong & she is the epitome of a TRUE LADY!!!!
