William Gregory, Norfolk State University- c/o 2022, Political Science

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*
I’m from Detroit, Michigan. Chris Gray, who is now the Assistant Band Director of the Ocean of Soul Marching Band introduced me to HBCU’s while he taught at DCP in Detroit.

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*
I chose Norfolk State University over any PWI because of Marching Band.
What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*
One word. “Humbling”. Norfolk State University has changed and improved my character in abundance. Especially being apart of the Spartan “Legion” Marching Band.
"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*
My first time sleeping in and missing my meal plan swipe at the café was an eye opener, go to sleep after you eat.

Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*
I would say Mr. Bethea and Mrs. Sanders. Our current directors of the Spartan “Legion”. They are just some of the realist and most humble people I have met in this lifetime honestly.
What to date has been your proudest moment @ Your HBCU?
Being a part of the Spartan “Legion” Marching Band.
