1

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*

I’m from Goodman, MS. I got introduced through my dad’s sisters because they ALL went to Jackson State.

From hearing them get excited talking about Capital City Classic to going to support them at graduation, that’s how I first got exposed to the HBCU experience.

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*

Growing up, my Mama and her sisters ALL went to Mississippi State University. For a while, that’s where I thought I would end up too. During my last year of high school, I just came to a decision to go to an HBCU. I really wanted to have that HBCU experience.

What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*

Alcorn State University is an institution of higher learning that I am forever grateful to be attending. I’ve been presented with opportunities that I will always cherish and remember. Alcorn made me a better student, leader, and an overall person!

4

"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*

My first time experience that stood out to me the most would be “Chicken Wednesday”. Dressing up to go to the cafe, eat chicken and dancing to music was so new to me. Coming from high school, I wasn’t used to that. Lol! The atmosphere was great and during that time, I met and bonded with a lot of students.

5

Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*

It’s so hard to just choose because I’ve shared that experience with many of my professors.

Whether it’s writing a letter of recommendation, helping me promote events as Miss Senior or buying tickets that I’ve sold for my sorority, they’ve been more than helpful! The professors at Alcorn care and they’re always there for support!

6

How are you positively active on campus? (e.g. clubs, SGA, etc.)

I’m active in various clubs on campus such as: Biology club, SGA(Miss Senior), Alpha Chi Sigma Fraternity, and POWER (Women Empowerment Group).

7

Are you a member of a sorority?

Yes! I’m a proud member of the Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, INC.!
