Sharif D. King, Delaware State University- c/o 2009, Mass Communications

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*
I am from Harlem by way of the Bronx, NY. I was introduced to HBCU's by my family who have graduated from other notable HBCU's as well.

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*
I picked an HBCU over a PWI because i knew how much it meant to family to attend a HBCU. It's truly nothing like attending a HBCU.
From the faculty, staff, and professors to the students and peers that become your extended family.

What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*
My HBCU, the Illustrious Delaware State University has made a major impact on my life and career. I was a part of the student government association, WDSU, Men's Council, and a orientation leader and mentor for the freshman and transfer students.
I was Mr. Mass Comm which was a great experience in itself. I also hosted and curated signature events on campus. Being a Hornet is dear to my heart and the pride that comes along with wearing DSU apparel and repping DSU is electric.
"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*
My first time experience include attending welcome week and meeting all the upperclassman that gave me the advice to become the student leader and the success story i am today.
Also, attending DSU sports events was incredible. Especially sitting up in the stand on the DSU side of the field and singing the alma mater songs and chants against the opposing team. DSU homecomings are always unforgettable. i'll never forget my first homecoming i attended at Delaware State University.
Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*
Dr. Edwards and Professor Perrine has led me to follow my dreams and aspirations in radio and television. They helped me to develop and hone my craft to become an astonishing media personality.
They were a huge reason for helping me gain exposure on and off campus as a mass communications major. Working inside the radio station, going to mass comm job fairs, and entering broadcast competitions has sharpened my peers in massive areas as communications professionals.
