Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*
I’m from Charlotte, NC & was introduced to HBCUs by various college advisors from different schools during HS college fairs.

WSSU '15, JCSU MSW '18
Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*
Being that I am a first generation college graduate, I wanted to attend a school that preserved my cultural heritage, traditions and values.
I also wanted to contribute to preserving black education. I had my choice of PWIs, however I wanted to attend a school that modeled my ethnic background.

Final graduate school research presentation
What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*
My experience at WSSU was nothing less than expected. The culture, the values, the daily interactions with students just like me from all walks of life was impeccable.
WSSU prepared me to compete amongst the best and truly upheld its motto to “Enter to learn, Depart to serve”...
"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*
My favorite first time experience was my first fried chicken Wednesday. The day everyone came to the cafe all dressed in their flyest gear, then went out on the breezeway to hang out.
Man, such an experience for me. I was amazed at how cool it was to be in college and still not feel like the nerdy black girl because everyone looked like me.
Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*
Dr. Chad Betters and Dr. Shawn Ricks both equipped all of their students with the knowledge need to go out into the field and know what to do and what to expect.
They did not take it light on anyone. I left their classes feeling enlightened and empowered.
