Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*

I am from Cloutierville, LA. I was introduced to HBCUs by my family and elementary/middle school teachers. Also we watched the Bayou Classic faithfully as a family.

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*

I knew growing up in the area I grew up in, that going to an HBCU would provide me with a different perspective on how to truly become a progressive African-American.

What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*

Wow. Good question. I can say that at Grambling State University I truly grew as a person. There were situations I found myself in, good and bad, that truly helped to define my character.

I started out at Grambling with 2 of my first cousins, we graduated together but I also felt like I left with so many other "family" members as well. There is no love like #GramFam love.

4

"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*

Road tripping to away football games, Greek life, HBCU homecoming, the World Famed Marching Tigers. I can remember being on the yard as a freshman and looking forward to 5pm because the band would marching through for practice. #Goodtimes

5

Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*

I would have to say one, Dr Helen Richards-Smith, who passed away a few years ago. She was the Dean of the Honors college.

I loved everything about her. She was so funny, very regal and always encouraging you to do your best. She was the first woman to do quite a few things at Grambling, so she definitely instilled that women could be whatever we set our minds to be.

6

What is your major? and Why did you choose it?

My majors were Accounting and Computer Information Systems. I chose Accounting coming out of high school as I had an uncle that worked for the IRS and he encouraged me to look into the potential of field.

I added Computer Information Systems during my sophomore year because a fellow student & a few professors asked me to look into the potential of having a double major in these two fields. After some research, I decided I liked what adding CIS could mean for me post-graduation.

It was one of the best decisions I could have made for my career path.
