Michael Simpson, Alabama A & M University- c/o 1994, Business Management

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*
I am from College Park, Georgia. I was introduced to HBCU's by my late Stepfather Howard Green Sr. whom attended and graduated from Alabama A&M University and my cousin Marvin Sparks whom attended FAMU and was a member of the Marching 100!

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*
I was always taught by my parents that some of the best universities in the world are HBCU's and I wanted to experience some of the things that I witnessed my family experience such as having caring instructors and extracurricular activities that were tailored for African Americans.
What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*
At Alabama A&M, I met people who came from similar backgrounds and circumstances and who have had similar experiences. There’s an atmosphere of community among the student body, and the professors and faculty were there to help nurture and guide me throughout my college education.
I established life long relationships; joined Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity inc. and was Blessed to meet my wife Ronnetta Simpson all while earning a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Management!
"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*
Some of my first time experiences were living without my parents, and time and money management.

Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*
Clyde Mullins was the professor that most impacted me in college because by him being the undergraduate advisor of the Gamma Phi chaper of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity inc. that I joined; it provided me an opportunity to be mentored on other aspects of life outside of the classroom.
What to date has been your happiest moment @ Your HBCU?
My happiest HBCU moments have been my daughter Braxton Simpson attending Tennessee State University and becoming the 2nd Student Trustee in TSU history and my son Blake Simpson pursuing his Academic experience at FAMU while playing football!
Are you a member of a fraternity?
I am a proud member of Spring 92 Gamma Phi chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity inc.
