Lucky Ezemobi, Howard University- c/o 2018, Health Science/Physical Therapy

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*
I am originally from Bowie, Maryland. I was born in Oakland, California. But I was raised in Maryland. Both my mom and dad are HBCU alums.

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*
I chose a HBCU over a Pwi because of the culture behind it. It is an experience you should never take for granted at all. It molded me into who I am today. It gave me the keys and tools to succeed in the real world and instilled a sense of courage in me.

What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*
Howard University has a great history of people who laid a foundation for others to follow. So many of the influential people who we see today have attended Howard - for instance Diddy also known as Sean Combs and the Wayans brothers.
As well as actress Phylicia Rashad and Chadwick Boseman. Those are people we look to for inspiration towards doing great things in our lives. This is an experience you don’t take for granted. I remember Chadwick Boseman speaking at my graduation this past May of 2018. He spoke very eloquently and diligently. His words touched many.
It is great to see what many Howard alums have achieved over there lives after undergrad.
"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*
It wasn’t really a first experience because I have attended Black schools all my life except for Samuel Ogle which was a white and black school. I’ve been around blacks all my life so it was nothing new to me.
Attending an HBCU just gave me a broader insight on the people who are around me.
Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*
Professor Beatty who was my pre-practicum writing teacher motivated me to always give my best. He was also a member of a Divine Nine Fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha so he could relate towards what I was experiencing as a black male at a HBCU.
He wanted me to give my best at all times. I had a few other professors who motivated me as well who helped me along the way in my undergrad career. They were all beneficial to me in there own separate ways.
