Kimberly McDowell, LeMoyne-Owen College- c/o 2016, Visual Arts

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*
I’m from Memphis, TN, I was introduced to HBCU’s by my mom.

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*
I chose an HBCU over a PWI because of the historical value that HBCUs hold.
What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*
Attending an HBCU was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Making the choice to attend LeMoyne-Owen College was an even greater one.
I am a legacy magician, my mom also graduated from LOC. So being able to carry on that tradition means the world to me. LeMoyne-Owen College is a great institution that fosters the ideas of creating a family environment.
I learned, gained, and grew so much in my time at LOC. I was provided so many opportunities to network, gain experience, practice in my field. The sense of community, culture, and freedom I felt is beyond words.
While at LOC I joined the best sorority DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY INCORPORATED Spring ‘12. I wouldn’t dare leave out some of the most amazing professors in the world.
LeMoyne-Owen being such a small college you get a lot of one on one time with your professors. They never complained, they welcomed you with a warm smile, open arms, and advice that will last a lifetime.

"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*
My first homecoming was epic!
Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*
Professor Phillip Dotson “Visual Arts”
Professor Ruby Mentor “English”
Doctor Cheryl Golden “Statistics”
