Kameka Washington, LeMoyne-Owen College- c/o 2022, Mass Communications

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*
I’m originally from St. Louis, Missouri but spent most of my years in Memphis.
I was introduced to The LeMoyne Owen College by my Uncle and Aunt and confirmation by my late grandma.

Me with last year’s Miss Lemoyne Owen
Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*
I decided to choose an HBCU to learn and feel comfortable around the individual who is just like myself.
In the journey of attending an HBCU, I was opened up to multiple life change opportunities for my career.
I’m very proud to be attending an institution that fought for my freedom to have the same quality and equal education as others.
I’m a proud member of multiple organization such as W.I.C (Women In Charge), NAACP, The LeMoyne-Owen college CAB, and am also a part of Sistah Konnection.
What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*
My experience at the wonderful and luxurious The LeMoyne-Owen college is excellent!
I’m experiencing that I could be as comfortable and honest in my own skin.

"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*
My first time was quite interesting the classes were small and everyone was sweet.
Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*
The professor that impacted my life on my journey here at the Lemoyne-Owen College is one teacher that is near and dear to my heart.
Mrs. Logan she is always available for me to sit down and chat with her with my feeling anxious and the feeling of being judged.
