Jordan Leeper, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff- c/o 2019, Physical Education

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*
I am from Columbus, Arkansas. My mother introduced me to HBCU’s at a young age.

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*
I actually attended a PWI my freshman year, but it wasn’t what I was looking for. I transferred to UAPB because I felt like it’d be a better fit for me than any PWI.

What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff has given me an experience like no other. From molding me into a young man of integrity and character to helping me excel in the classroom. UAPB has really changed my life.
"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*
Coming to UAPB, I didn’t know what to expect. It was my first time in college experiencing teachers that really cared. It was also my first time seeing a whole school look and act like one big family.
Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*
Miss Betty Hayes-Anthony, Dr. Michael Seger, Dr. William Torrence, Mr. Latraia Jones. They all have helped better me in the classroom and in the real world. They all also keep my encouraged when I’m down and that means a lot to me.
What sports do/did you play at your HBCU? What positions?
I don’t play, but I am a Student Assistant for the Men’s Basketball Team.
What is your major? and Why did you choose it?
My major is physical education. I chose it because I love the game of basketball. I knew that my playing career would be over after high school, so i decided that I wanted to stay around the game by becoming a coach! I’d like to coach college basketball after graduating.
