Jamere Wedlow, Wiley College- c/o 2015, Mass Communications/Broadcast Journalism

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*
I am native of Las Vegas, Nevada . I was first introduced to HBCUs at an early age by mother Dwanna. I spent the first few years of my life tagging along with her through Undergrad and Graduate school at Grambling State University.

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*
I chose the HBCU experience for two reasons. The first being the marching bands I dreamed of playing the snare or cymbals for an HBCU institution. The second reason was BET College Hill Series it made the campus life and student activities look enticing.
What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*
My Experience was a spiritual journey of growth. The Campus is filled with Culture and History. The atmosphere for creativity is endless at Wiley almost every student is or was a creative force in their own right .
Debaters, Musicians, Athletes, Designers, Poets, Writers, Artists, etc.. The "Juilliard" of Texas is the best way to describe it.

"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*
1. Chicken Tuesdays in the cafeteria
2.Student Leadership, Participating in the Ethical Student Leadership Conference
3.Founders Week (better than Homecoming)
4. Participating in the Mr. Blue & Gold pageant
5. Living on my own
Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*
1. Dr. Solomon Massenda , my English professor he had a unique prowess with literature unlike any other. Each lecture was tailored to paint literature vividly on the canvas of our minds. He also provided comic relief as well always referencing Gulliver's travels calling us Yahoos, Dumbells, and Houyhnhnm.
2. Dr. Amanda P. Winters, she was the school mom and referred to every student as her babies and had more pull & respect on the campus than the president and board trustees combined.
3 . Professor Antione hardy every Class he taught was lit.
Your wildest moment at college?
Letting off fireworks behind the financial aid office.
What is your funniest college story? (everyone has one lol)
Giving a presentation on pornography for mass media and society.
What is your major? and Why did you choose it?
Mass communications, honestly because it caught my eye in the catalog.
