Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*

Born in Tampa, Fl . Raised in Adel, Georgia.

My Aunt is a FAMU alum. so she took me to my first classic when i was 6 ( Fam vs. Bcu ) and ever since then I became more interested in learning more about HBCUs. Once I did my research I fell in love with the HBCU life, history & everything they stood for & I fell in love with FAMU in particular.

[Were your guidance counselors knowledgeable about HBCUs? If not, where did you get all of your information from about the HBCUs you were thinking of attending?]

My guidance counselor was knowledgeable.

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*

Me being a black female, in the world we live in today I wanted to be around my own people so I could encourage them & uplift them, be there to tell them “Keep it up, you’re doing great!”.

Not just females, but males too.

HBCUs have so much rich history &I feel as though when it comes to Colleges & universities HBCUs have the strongest “family” bond.

FAMU. I chose to attend FAM for their nursing & criminal justice. For the band, the school pride & the bond of the FAMUly.

Well, I am a junior but I’m an early graduate so take my advice with a grain of salt but I say, if you want to do something don’t let anyone talk you out of it especially if it’s something positive like early graduation.
Live your life for YOU & enjoy HS, I feel like I was just a freshman the other day. Lol
