Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*
I am from Savannah, Georgia, home of The Illustrious Savannah State University! I was introduced to HBCUs in high school when I began thinking of my prospective college.

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*
I choose an HBCU over a pwi because I wanted to take part in a learning experience that was tailor-made for black scholars. I wanted to learn and acquire new skills amongst my own people.
I wanted to be a part of and continue a legacy that was created and left by my ancestors. I wanted to be apart of the HBCU culture!
What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*
My experience at Savannah State has been quite unique! I started attending SSU at 16 years old as a dual enrolled student and after my first semester there I fell in love with the HBCU culture.
I love how it just feels like one big family, I love learning with my own people, I love the professors and the staff! I felt absolutely delighted with the idea of attending a school with such a rich history and knowing that I’m a part of the strong legacy our ancestors fought so hard to continue!

"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*
My first time going to homecoming at my HBCU was out of this world. It was literally like a big family reunion that lasted for one full week.
I had so much fun, the turn up was real! The festivities were great!
Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*
The professor that has impacted my life in and outside of the classroom is definitely the one and only, Amir Jamal Toure, Africana Studies Professor! (#1501) He empowers the students on campus, he pushes us to our full potential, he enlightens us with rich history and new knowledge about our people and culture, and he genuinely cares for the students who attend the university.
He goes out of his way to make sure he represents our HBCU everywhere he goes and he works hard to make sure that student’s voices are heard. His actions inspire me heavily!
