1

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*

Born and raised in Cincinnati Oh . My family is from Alabama, a majority went to TSU, ASU OR A&M. So I was introduced (to HBCUs) as a kid attending classics.

2

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*

Coming from a majority all-white school. I wanted an educational experience where I had black teachers , students and successful people who looked just like me. Also who better to teach me how to survive in this white dominated country than another black professional.

3

What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*

Coming all the way from Cincinnati OH to AL, I didn’t know anyone.

It didn’t take long for me to bond with people. For the first time I saw a large body of people of color that didn’t end in a fight or gun violence like I saw in Cincinnati. The professors were supportive and welcoming. Come to find out even though we are all black we are all different . Blacks are the most diverse people. We come in all many different shades, sizes and languages. My HBCU taught me how to carry myself with pride and dignity. I love my culture.

My people and myself even more now that I am a graduate of ASU.

4

"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*

Yes.

5

Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*

Dr. Ashborn and Dr Bryde. Both were very strict and didn’t take BS in their class. (They were) very quick to put you in your place when needed. But also very loving and supportive.
