2

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*

I chose an HBCU because it was a part of my cultural influence growing up.

3

What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*

The story of my experience is a culmination of academics, athletics, Greek life and extended family. But, Southern U means more… The pride instilled and the guiding principles taught solidified my foundation to become fruitful in my life’s work. Although I hold a MBA from a PWI I am anchored to Southern University for life!

4

"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*

Crawfish, cotton fields, and being rejected to use a public restroom because of the color of my skin circa 1989.

5

Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*

My professors from the College of Business meant business! They taught theory, but also life lessons that I didn’t realize until I entered life after college and reflected on their words of wisdom.

To name the most influential person at Southern University would be my late Coach, Johnny L. Thomas. Not only did he improve my athletic performance, but also served as a surrogate parent for a girl whose home was 2500 miles away.

He gave tough love that translated to my present day inner strength, tenacity and discipline. I would not be who I am today, without Southern University.
