Brittany Boglin-Hudson, Kentucky State University- c/o 2020, Physical Education

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*
I’m from the Motor City, Detroit Michigan. Who introduced me to HBCUs was my high school band director who is now the band director at Kentucky State University.

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*
Actually my freshmen year I attended a PWI in Saginaw, MI. When my band director contacted me and asked me to come to K-State, there was no hesitation in going to Kentucky, being around people who look like me!
What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*
This university is truly a family. Even though this is an HBCU this school is very diverse. I came encounter with some amazing loving people!!!

"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*
My first time experience was really nerve-wracking only because I was new to the state, campus, and band and I only knew a few people there, I was finally about to be on my own and it was scary at first but being at K-state will make you come out of your shell and they will always make sure you are comfortable and always having fun.
Everywhere I go on campus I feel at home. My HBCU makes sure you have everything you need to prepare you for the world after college. What makes me really love this HBCU is the pride that we have!! We have so much pride in everything we do. At Kentucky State University FAILURE IS NOT A OPTION!!
Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*
The professors that have impacted my life in and out of the classroom are my advisor Dr. Gavin Washington, he has helped me through this whole thing and made sure I had everything I needed before I graduate.
Another professor that has really impacted my life in a tremendous way is my band director Alvin Level, he showed me to never give up and always go for what you want. One thing that I will never forget that he always would say in practice is that we gotta have a chip on our shoulder or I would always remember at performances he would turn around and ask if he had his dogs with him and being one of his dogs had made me into the beast I am today.
