1

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*

I’m from Amarillo, TX. I heard of Alcorn State University through a former teammate at my junior college, Frank Phillips College. They were looking to recruit her which is when she gave the coach my contact information.

2

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*

I chose Alcorn State because they gave me the opportunity to play softball at the next level while also providing a scholarship to help further my education.

What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*

My HBCU experience was not only eye opening and life changing but provided me with lifetime friends that turned into family.

Everybody knows everybody and there’s a sense of belonging and security on campus. I was able to learn a lot about myself being out there; my strengths, weaknesses, and even leave more open minded than when I came.

4

"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*

So many “first time” experiences for me at my HBCU! My first step show, probate, and honestly, so many things you can only experience while being at an HBCU. And every first time experience left me feeling like I was in a movie.

5

Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*

The two people who had the biggest impact in my life at Alcorn State were actually my strength coaches, Reggie Haralson and William Prince.

They always gave me, and continue to give me, the extra push I needed whether it be in the gym or in the next steps of my life.

6

What sports do/did you play at your HBCU? What positions?

I was on the softball team at Alcorn where I played outfield and first base.

7

If you could only speak two sentences to the youth coming after you what would you say?

Never be afraid to take the path less traveled! You might be creating a path for many to come behind you.
