Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*
I decided to become a student at Virginia University of Lynchburg because I needed to find a school where I could focus and work closely with my professors. I transfered from Saint Paul’s College after my sophomore year.
What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*
My experience at Virginia University of Lynchburg has been a great one. I have exceled and matured as a person and student at our prestigous institution. I have learned a lot about myself that I didn’t know before. I accomplished so many goals that I never thought I would thanks to my HBCU. They pushed me to work hard and guided me to success. They continue to support everything I do.
"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*
I did take my first road trip to the CIAA tournament.
Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*
Their are a lot of my professors who have left an impact on me. My curriculum development teacher Dr.Hester Foster has taught me how to uplift myself inside and outside the classroom. My math professor Dr.Carl Jackson has taught me discipline and hard work and has showed me that it pays off. They are more than just teachers. They help you in and outside of the classroom.

Best restaurants on/near campus? Best dishes?
The best restaurants in the area would definitely be Hibachi’s which is a international buffet.
You get student discounts their and its all you can eat! Another popular restaurant is La Caretta and Koto. Koto is a japanese steak house they cook the food in front of you and have a full bar. It is a nice place to go and hang out.
La Caretta is a mexican restaurant with reasonable prices. My favorite dish at Koto which is my all time favorite is chicken and shrimp.
College crush?
I do not have a college crush.
Ghost stories involving buildings or spots on campus?
I have heard stories about the freshman dorms. They were stories like people used to get murdered when they were hotels back in the day. I don’t know how true they are though.
What is your major? and Why did you choose it?
My major is Sociology and I am minoring in Business. I chose Sociology as a major because I wanted to major in a field that gave me options for career choices.
What to date has been your proudest moment @ Your HBCU?
My proudest moment at my HBCU was finally seeing the Sports program start back up and seeing the Student activities start. Ever since I have transfered to VUL I have tried to get different programs and clubs started. Things are finally starting to fall into place.
Where are the spots to go to if you wanted to cuddle with your boy or girlfriend?
Our HBCU is very small. There aren’t many places to go to cuddle with your boyfriend or girlfriend besides your room or off campus.
What are the chants heard most often at the sporting events?
VUL discontinued sports in 1954. This is the first year our sports program has started back up.
The first game is on September 3, 2011 so I’m excited to see what chant we will come up with to support our players at each game.
How are you positively active on campus? (e.g. clubs, SGA, etc.)
I am a charter member of the Student Ambassador Club. I am a charter member of the Cheerleading team. I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and I was the first Greek on the yard in Virginia University of Lynchburg’s history. I am a Residential Assistant. I like to meet new people and I work hard to advocate for my HBCU.
Where is the “yard” located?
The yard is located on campus where our small courtyard is.
What and where are the historical places on campus?
All of the buildings we have are historical. VUL was organized in 1886.
What to date has been your saddest moment at your HBCU?
The saddest moment at our HBCU is when our history teacher died. I have never had a teacher die before.
How did you overcome your nervousness about going to college?
I overcame my nervousness about college because I was ready to experience something new.
I pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated in the Spring of 2011. Virginia University of Lynchburg is apart of a core chapter including three other schools in the area. I pledged because I am all about finer womanhood and helping my community and others. I am the first Greek on the Yard in Virginia University of Lynchburg’s history. (Congratulations Nubian Queen Ashley on being the first Greek on your campus EVER! Much Respect!)
