Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*

I am from Sandersville, Georgia. I remember my first day on the hill, when trying to introduce myself and letting people know my city, they would always ask me where is “ Sandersville”.

I would think to myself, hopefully one day I can leave my footprint to gain awareness of my city.

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*

I chose an HBCU over a PWI because of the comfort and love I recieved on my visit. From my region in Georgia, I was recruited to run track from some big time PWI’s. When talking and meeting with them, even though they had more “physical resources” to offer, they did not not have the comforting feel I was looking for.

Especially with me being from a small town. I wanted to feel where I was going genuinely cared about me. From Day 1, to when I walked across the stage, my HBCU did just that.

3

What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*

My experience at my HBCU showed me there is value in blackness and being immersed in black ideas, black culture and black people.

Over the course of 10 years, being a member of a team environment, Track and Field was the first time in my life, I felt the perfect balance from trying to help others while helping myself. Because of this, it made me feel complete In so many ways.

"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*

None.

5

Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*

Although so many professors have impacted my life, the one that has most recently impact me is my sports management graduate program chair, Dr. Sarah Price. She believed in me when I lost faith in my own understanding.

She mentored me through my graduate program giving me insight and wisdom along the way.
