2

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*

I chose an HBCU over a PWI to see more people that share my skin tone trying to achieve the same goal of obtaining higher education.

3

What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*

So far, my experience at Southern University has been nothing short of amazing. I am utterly thankful that I have the opportunity to be in a supportive environment.

My biology teacher became my mentor and my soror in two years. I also had the opportunity to dance on a collegiate level, which provided me with many great opportunities that I wouldn’t experience in a classroom setting.

4

"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*

“Red bean Monday”, the circle, the union, tail gate days, and pretty Wednesday are just a few of the guaranteed Southern experiences.

5

Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*

Ms. Johnson, a biology professor in my department, has had the biggest impact in my college journey. She kept me level headed and always looked out for me. We share a bond that I do not think I have with another professor in college. I am so grateful to have crossed paths with her.

Also, Dr. Edwin Walker, for teaching me tough love. Although I did not always like what he had to say, he was right, believe it or not. He taught me that I need to work harder to get where I want to go, and just doing “good” is never enough—especially as a brown skinned young woman.

6

Are you a member of a sorority?

I am a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. This was the best decision I’ve made in college. I am so happy to be serving the community with my 49 beautiful sisters.
