1

Where are you from? Who introduced you to HBCUs?*

I am from Xenia, Ohio.
My father introduced me to the greatness that is offered at an HBCU.

My dad works at the university that I now attend and he shined a whole new light on the HBCU experience to me as I was preparing to make a choice on which university would suit me best.

2

Why did you choose an HBCU over a pwi?*

I chose to attend an HBCU over a PWI because I wanted the experience that only an HBCU can offer an African-American student.

I went to a majority Caucasian high school and I wanted something different for college.

Felt Like Home...I decided to become a student at Central State University because from day one it felt like this is where I should be.
At my new student orientation I was embraced as if they were my actual family and they really cared about my well-being and had my best interest at heart and that meant a lot to me.

3

What is the story of your "experience" at Your HBCU given its heralded status as a stellar and prestigious institution?*

The story of my “HBCU Experience” is one of student leadership and success.

I have always been an outspoken and heavily devoted person to whatever I put my heart into, but Central State helped me tremendously by giving me an outlet to do what comes natural to me.

There are so many opportunities at Central State for you to shine and be a leader and become the light that helps guide the next generations, and my experience has taught me that you must follow before you can lead and that everything happens in due time.

"First time" experiences at your HBCU?*

While attending Central State University one of the “first” time experiences I had was going on a business road-trip with the Pre-Law Society to University of Toledo Law School and Case-Western Law School.
I’ve been on road-trips for leisure before but my first time business road trip was a lot of fun and a great learning experience which also introduced me to the law school that I hope to attend after graduation.

5

Who are the professors that have impacted your life in and out of the classroom? How did they do that?*

The professor that has had the biggest impact on my life is Professor Sidney Williams.

Mr. Williams is the law professor at Central State University and also the advisor over the Pre-Law Society which I have been a member of since the beginning of my journey at Central State.

This incredible man has not only pushed me to always do my best when it comes to academics but he has also sharpened my professional demeanor and helped me propel myself to the next level when it comes to ambition and drive.

6

Best restaurants on/near campus? Best dishes?

The best restaurants near campus would either be Nick’s Grill or Los Mariachis.
At Nick’s really anything you order off their menu is amazing and at Los Mariachis I can never leave without having their delicious fried ice-cream.

7

What is your major? and Why did you choose it?

My major is Political Science with a concentration in Public Administration and a minor in Pre-Law.
I chose this major because I plan on going to law school upon graduation, and I love anything to do with the law and government.

8

How are you positively active on campus? (e.g. clubs, SGA, etc.)

I am positively active on my college campus by being a Tour Guide as well as being a member of the Pre-Law Society, the Political Science Society , and TRIO/ Student Support Services which helps acclimate high school students to college and then undergraduate students onto their next step in life.

9

Where is the “yard” located?

The “yard” that I love and cherish is located in Wilberforce, Ohio.

10

What and where are the historical places on campus?

My whole HBCU is a historical place.
Some of the prominent buildings that are known for their historical value are Galloway Hall, which before the 1974 tornado that demolished the auditorium was a prominent place for Civil Rights activist to come speak to students and the community alike.

Another place that is filled with historical value pivotal to an HBCU campus is the African-American Museum (on fB) that sits on Central State’s ground.
Even though the museum itself isn’t historical the information and knowledge it houses tells a story that dates back generations and that every student that attend an HBCU should hear.

11

If you could only speak two sentences to the youth coming after you what would you say?

If I could only speak a few words to the youth coming after me I would say, ” Every reality was once a dream, so set your sights on the stars and let them soar.”
